Neuralink is building an interface for implantable brain chips. Musk started the company in 2016 together with a group of engineers. This approach is supposed to finally allow paralyzed people to move, talk, and see normally once more.
Musk also tweeted a picture of the blind character Geordi La Forge from the science fiction TV show Star Trek. Geordi La Forge sees with aid from technology.
According to Neuralink, Blindsight had the FDA approve the revolutionary gadget, which is equivalent to the FDA endorsing the product.
Features of Neuralink
The Tech Mogul tweeted on Wednesday about the features of Neuralink
Neuralink’s Blindsight device will make vision possible for people who have lost both their eyes and their optic nerves. It will also allow individuals who have been blind from birth to see for the first time, provided that the visual brain is unharmed.
And further, he said
“To accurately set expectations, the vision will start at low resolution, similar to Atari graphics, but in time it could surpass natural vision and allow you to see in ultraviolet, infrared, and even radar wavelengths, like Geordi La Forge.”
How the device works
According to Musk, “Blindsight” technology can restore vision in those who have lost both eyes and an optic nerve provided that the visual brain remains functional. This area of the brain is responsible for processing visual data coming from the eyes. Blindsight technology could make vision possible for those without eyes or optic nerves by analyzing and transmitting cerebral impulses.
At first, the quality will be simple, like the graphics in early video games. However, big steps forward are still possible, like being able to see in ultraviolet and infrared wavelengths.
Neuralink Trial
The U.S. government’s clinical trials database shows that three people are expected to take part in this study so that the equipment can be tested. The research will likely take several years to finish.
FDA Approval
Neuralink got permission from the FDA in May 2023 to do its first study on people. On Twitter, the company said that getting this permission is a big step towards using its tech to help a lot of people.
The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved a trial implant device for Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, who also started the brain-chip business Neuralink. This technology might enable those who have lost both their eyes and their optic nerve to see once more.
Neuralink’s founder, Elon Musk, said last month that the brain-chip surgery had been successful in a second patient.
FDA Breakthrough Devices
Utilizing the Blindsight device takes effort. Neuralink took a while to respond when asked when it intended to test the Blindsight gadget on humans. Furthermore, the FDA took a while to reply when a request for input was made.
With the FDA’s Advance Device Designation, some medical devices that aid in the diagnosis or treatment of potentially fatal disorders move through the development and approval process more quickly.
Neuralink has now released details on its most recent invention, after Musk’s announcement that the business intends to implant brain chips in eight additional patients this year. These implants will enable users who are parparalysed to operate electronic equipment with their thoughts.
Company feedback
The company’s site says,
“The ultimate goal of Neurolink is to develop a generalized input/output platform that can interface with all areas of the human brain.”
Another business sector that is Neurable. It manufactures brain-computer interface technologies and is headquartered in Boston. It started working with HealthSpan Digital in March. It’s a Canadian precision health startup.
Neurotechnology is intended to be sent to health and life clinics worldwide so that physicians can examine patients’ brains and assess cognitive and memory function.
